“Non-Violent Communication” by Marshall B. Rosenberg

Communication is easier said than done. it is usually the prime directive of couples. it is often the goal of individuals. and yet we struggle with it.

Communication is something we do so much of and yet struggle with equally as much. How often do you second guess what someone said to you, or even ruminate on what you said to someone? You are not alone!

Themes that can help us grow in our communication are assertiveness techniques, negotiation, empathic communication, and even boundaries. “I-messages” instead of accusatory “you-messages” can help calm defences from rising. Knowing how and when to be assertive versus passive or aggressive can help ease tensions in relationships. Being able to say “no” and accept someone else’s “no” can be empowering. Expressing our feelings and needs can draw us closer to each other and help us stand firmly in ourselves.
